Work underway on two new West Oxfordshire housing sites

Demolition work is now underway at two of our former housing schemes in West Oxfordshire in preparation for redevelopment.

We're completely redeveloping the sites at Bampton and Carterton to provide 49 new one and two-bed flats, all for social rent. This includes 18 at Lavender Place, Bampton, and 31 at Blenheim Court, Carterton.

We received planning permission to redevelop the vacated 1960s properties earlier this year, with work on site delayed due to Coronavirus.

Colin Bloodworth, our Assistant Director of Development and Assets, said: “We’re delighted that work has finally begun and we can start to transform these outdated sites into more much-needed affordable housing. We’re particularly pleased to be providing these new modern homes all for social rent, helping to meet local demand in two areas where rental prices are high.”

The redevelopment of the sites has been planned since 2017 and we have relocated all previous customers to more suitable, improved accommodation in preparation for the work to take place.

The Oxfordshire Housing and Growth Deal, which secured government investment for new homes and infrastructure across the county, has provided a grant of nearly £2.7m to support the development of these schemes.

EG Carter have been appointed to carry out work at the Bampton site on our behalf. Phillip Barnes, Associate Director, said: “EG Carter are committed to providing high quality homes and are pleased to be working with Cottsway on this redevelopment. It’s fantastic to finally be able to start work after the delays due to the UK lockdown. We hope to have completed the demolition onsite by the end of this year and construction of the 18 new flats by Spring 2022.”

Feltham Construction are redeveloping the Carterton site and Simon Lampard, Construction Director said: “Feltham are delighted to be commencing on what is our second significant project with Cottsway in Carterton within a matter of a few weeks, thus providing further high-quality affordable housing to the area.”
