DELAYS TO REPAIRS: We’ve completed many of the outstanding repairs logged with us prior to lockdown and are working hard to clear the remaining backlog. However we are experiencing some shortages in supplies, difficulties recruiting trade staff, and higher than normal levels of sickness absence. Please bear with us – we are completing repairs as quickly as we can. Thank you for your patience. For our latest service information, see our Coronavirus webpage

New grounds maintenance contractor appointed

We've appointed a new contractor to deliver grounds maintenance services to our customers.

John O’Conner Grounds Maintenance Ltd, based in Hertfordshire with a local presence in Swindon, has won the contract following a competitive tender process.

The family-run business will be responsible for maintaining Cottsway-owned land, including services such as grass and hedge cutting, weeding and litter picking in communal areas from 1 January 2022. They will also provide an assisted gardening service for our customers.

Wendy Hardy, our Head of Housing, said: “Our old contract was coming to an end and it’s imperative that we continue to ensure the best value for money for our services for our customers. This grounds maintenance contract is one of our biggest service contracts and we’re delighted to have appointed John O’Conner GM Ltd following an in-depth service review.

“It’s been important to us to give our customers the opportunity to be involved in this process. We invited customers to take part in a survey and more than 100 completed this. A small number have also been part of a Procurement Working Group, working alongside Cottsway staff, to help shape the tender specification and select the final contractors – their input was invaluable and we’re very grateful to them!

“We’re looking forward to working with John O’Conner to ensure customers receive the high-quality service they expect and deserve.”

Joe Howarth, Regional Manager at John O’Conner, said: “We have over 50 years’ experience of providing extensive grounds maintenance and landscaping services and we ’re thrilled to have won this contract with Cottsway. We’re looking forward to working within the Cottsway community and delivering a high quality of grounds maintenance to the residents and end users.”

John O’Conner GM Ltd employs more than 450 staff and are recruiting in the Cottsway area, see: www.johnoconner.co.uk
