Christmas has come early for four Ducklington families, who are set to celebrate their first festive period in their new shared ownership homes.
The householders in Deanfield Meadow, Ducklington, are enjoying the Christmas gift of a secure and long-term family home set in a popular village location close to Witney.
The properties, a mix of two and three bedroom semi–detached homes, were handed over to residents by Cottsway Housing in August. The full scheme, built by developer Deanfield Homes, includes 12 homes for private sale along with the four shared ownership homes and eight homes for affordable rent.
Thanks to Cottsway and the Shared Ownership scheme, the shared owners have been able to purchase a share of the new build homes. They pay rent to Cottsway on the remainder and can purchase additional shares in their home as their income increases.
Laura Philpott, her husband Simon, and their two children are one family celebrating Christmas under their new roof. Having moved from a two-bedroom flat, the family is looking forward to making the most of their garden and extra space.
Laura said: “We absolutely adore this house, it is everything we ever wanted. It is homely, has given the kids their own bedrooms for the first time and we can enjoy either the peace of being in our own bubble, or meeting with neighbours.
“My three-year-old has been thrown by the concept of an upstairs though; he’s my shadow at the moment as he adjusts to having so much space! He’s just enjoying running from one room to another!
“We’ve worked so hard to save, and also had the generosity of family to help us, and it’s made such a difference to us all. We are much happier and relaxed.
“It is great to know we own a share in our home, and that one day this place will be fully ours.
“What the shared ownership route has also offered us is the chance to teach our children that if you work hard, you can own your own home. They’ll grow up knowing it’s an option if they’re prepared to save and put the time in.
“I don’t ever want to move!”
Claire Evans, Sales Manager at Cottsway, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have had such strong feedback from customers and to hear how their lives have changed since moving in. Access to affordable, quality accommodation should be a right, and we are working hard to speed up our development activity to help as many people as possible.
“Thank you to our development partner Deanfield Homes for their role in making this project such as success.”
This is the first scheme Cottsway completed with Deanfield Homes. Another is already on site in Tackley and work on a third site of 12 affordable rent and five shared ownership homes built as part of a larger development on land next to Wychwood Primary School will start in 2019.
