The organisers of #HousingDay, the 24-hour social media event to celebrate the positive impact of social housing on millions of tenants, are delighted to announce that Cottsway Housing will be the hosts for this year’s live event on Tuesday, 8 October.
The West Oxfordshire-based housing association will be welcoming the #HousingDay team to their offices in Witney as part of the national social housing awareness day.
The focus for this year is community investment and social media will be ablaze with stories bringing to life the positive work of the housing sector in supporting local communities.
Leslie Channon, who became the #HousingDay champion last year, is a former Chair of Cottsway’s Scrutiny Panel and Cottsway supported her in her advocacy for social housing, including supporting her to study for a Master’s Degree in Housing Studies.
Now a leading social housing campaigner, Leslie helped to develop and co-faciltate the Ministerial Roadshows which informed the Government’s Social Housing Green Paper published in 2018. She is currently Chair of the national Voice for Tenants group.
Leslie said: “I’m super excited that Cottsway is letting us use their offices to host this year’s #HousingDay. We have a jam-packed itinerary that will hopefully create a real buzz and get the conversation focused on the value of Community Investment.
“Community investment is one of those things that we do that can sometimes go unnoticed but can in fact have a hugely beneficial impact.
“We want to use this year’s #HousingDay to highlight this important area of work and remind people that it shouldn’t be a ‘nice thing to do’ add-on but an integral part of the business.”
Cottsway Housing has a dedicated communities team that works to support not only Cottsway customers, but local communities too. Cottsway will be sharing stories and information showcasing some of this work during #HousingDay.
Vivian Rosser, Chief Executive at Cottsway said: “We’re very proud that the organisers of #HousingDay have chosen us to host this important day in the housing sector. We’re also especially proud that it is one of customers spearheading this day and to have been part of her journey.
“We are absolutely committed to supporting our local communities and work closely with partner agencies to maximise our impact. It’s great to see that this year’s #HousingDay is putting the spotlight on community investment.”
Social housing professionals and residents in the Oxfordshire area are invited to come and take part in #HousingDay and share their Community Investment stories.
